The Juggling Launchpad

Jay Gilligan is offering his only teaching sessions open to the public in North America for the next 1.5 years at SkillCon 2018! Participants must be registered for WJF14. He is the head teacher of juggling at the Dance and Circus University in Stockholm, Sweden, and has taught variations of this event at the IJA, EJC, and every major circus school in the world. Jugglers who have participated in these lessons include Wes Peden, Tony Pezzo, Patrik Elmnert, Gauillaume Karpowicz, Arttu Lahtinen, Onni Toivonen, and Emil Dahl.

This masterclass is divided into 2 sessions of 3 hours each and will cover up to the minute, cutting edge, contemporary, and experimental juggling techniques collected from all over the globe, with a concentration on Scandinavian trends. Juggling will be looked at in 3 areas- the objects, the body, and rhythm.

Additionally, traditional foundation-building basics will be incorporated for a well rounded experience. This workshop will teach concepts and ideas through small, accessible tricks that anyone can instantly learn. All skill levels and prop types are welcomed.

Jay Gilligan has performed in 33 different countries, touring solo work and collaborating with companies such as The Gandini Juggling Project, Cie Jérôme Thomas, Les 7 doigts de la main, Cirkus Cirkör, and Cirque du Soleil. He recently published a book about contemporary juggling titled "5 Catches,” and is currently collaborating with NASA scientists and Cie Ea Eo to make a juggling show which will welcome aliens to Earth, should they ever land here.
